Rob’s mom thought that by buying him a bicycle to ride to school on, would save her money.

What she didn’t know, is that he’d take to racing after being introduced to the track by his primary school deputy headmaster.

At the age of 10, Rob found his love for a bicycle and there in the competition, the progression, and the ability to explore.

Later, he discovered that it was the ideal way to share his passion with likeminded people and drink coffee by the gallons.

22 years later, he still spends most of his day on his bicycle and wouldn’t change a thing. So much so, he turned his love into his career.

As the owner of Rubber Side Down MTB, he is thrilled to help as many people as he can to ride with confidence and get the most out of their mountain biking experience.

Highlights have been competing at the Junior World Track Champs in 2008, and riding all the features that used to terrify him at last year’s SA XCO championships Cascades PMB.

What he has learnt through sport is that there is so much more to cycling than racing and winning and hopes to positively impact people’s biking experiences through helping them confidence-up.
