Ryan Thomas

Ryan Thomas has a back story much like many South African men.

He played various sports while growing up, from tennis to hockey, rugby, cricket, athletics, even kickboxing.

And really loved it.
When he started with his studies, he got distracted and the weight piled on.

What makes him such an inspiration is the amount of weight he lost.

With the weight came the serious health concerns, to the extent that his doctor suggested he start running.

Now, dedicated to duathlon and triathlon, Ryan has managed to shake off 47kg!

The lifestyle change has created a home environment where the whole family participates in some form of sport and weekends are planned around their sporting activities.

What Ryan has learnt through sport is teamwork, leadership, hard work and how to deal with failure.

His dream is to represent the SA Team at World Champs.

He was chosen for this year but due to the war in the Ukraine, he decided to hold off and hopes that next year will be the year.

Inspired by his father-in-law and uncle who still compete in endurance events (aged 68 and 74 respectively), he is kept motivated by achieving his goals and mentoring his two boys.

We wish him every success.
